**Import Requirements**

**Age Restriction:** Botswana does not impose an age limit on imported used cars.
**Inspection:** A pre-shipment inspection is not required.
**Import Permit:** Obtained from the Ministry of Commerce.
**Customs Declaration Form SAD 500:** For customs clearance.

**Duties and Taxes**

The Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) assesses the vehicle's value based on the cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) value.
**Import Duty:** 27% of the vehicle's value.
**Value Added Tax (VAT):** 12% of the vehicle's value.
**National Road Safety Fund Levy:** P40.00, expiring at the end of December each year.
**Road Transport Permit Levy:** Charged based on the laden load of a vehicle (truck) and for every entry into Botswana.

**Documentation Required**

**Purchase Invoice:** Specifies purchase value.
**Police Clearance Cert:** From both export country and Botswana Police Service.
**Vehicle Evaluation:** Obtained from an accredited used car dealer.
**IC 2 Application:** Obtained from the destination agent; submit to the Ministry of Commerce.
**Form CE 101:** Original, in duplicate, submitted with Import Permit, Residence Permit, and passport to the Department of Customs and Excise.

**Import Process**

**Pre-Shipment Inspection:** Not required.
**Shipping:** Vehicles are typically shipped via Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) services to the Port of Durban in South Africa, then transported to Botswana.
**Customs Clearance:** Submit the required documentation and pay applicable duties and taxes.
**Registration:** Register the vehicle with the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) to obtain Botswana number plates.
